Bamboo Dreams: Temple Ridge Designs

There are three giant stands of bamboo on our landscape. Seems obvious we should try to use them to build our first major structure; a simple but beautiful one-bed bamboo Eco-house…the idea…

The idea is simple, build somewhere to stay in comfort whilst we make plans for The Cove, the main complex at the base of the hill. Its an interim structure but no less challenging. When the time comes, It will also serve as a place to invite others to come stay.

Having cleared the top south-facing site in preparation, we have cut 100+ stems from our stacks, hauling them up the hill to a prepping area.

In addition, Norm has sourced locally another thirty or so Giant Petung. These are enormous, the largest of all bamboos, some measuring 17-19 inches in diameter.

There are a few beautiful examples of bamboo structures in the area, Norm has built most of them, and has kindly helped us with the initial designs.

The aim is to use local-only skill-sets, labour and materials.

So meeting with the best we’ve put together a bamboo build dream team. Here’s what they built Denise and I  as a surprise…
