The Landscape / Initial Plans

Here’s a fly-over video, description of the landscape, and our initial dreams laid out:

The land covers around two hectares straddling a buckled jungle-clad mountain range…

It’s a landscape draped in mature fruit forests, lush vivid green paddy fields, palms, and giant trees.

With two natural springs supplying crystal clear waters, a chill mountain river winds its way along our western border… A stones throw to the north lies Bali Barat National Park and the extinct but majestic Batukaru Volcano.

The river is dotted with plunge pools. a small waterfall, and swathed in coconut palms. There are two distinct areas of our land;  Upper & Lower.  Each zone is slowly being connected by walkways and jungle paths that, in time we hope will develop into productive botanical gardens.

Building Base Camp: The Cove

‘THE COVE’ Proposed site of the main building complex

The lower levels are where we hope in time to build the main residence… it will be a home but also a base camp for developing and launching projects. The site has three hills that encircle traditional rice paddy terraces. The dream is to create something that sits naturally within this environment, with different zones connected by tropical paths, pools and ponds: Emulating the shape, curves, and form of the rice paddies, a chlorine-free swimming pool will nestle against the house and be fed by a natural spring designed to flow through and back into the paddies.

The ‘Cove’ A Natural Amphitheatre

Temple Ridge, is the name that seems to suit the upper zone.

Set high on the arete-line of the mountain (@700 meters)  every morning the sound of a distant Hindu temple echoes out across the landscape.  Here we hope to build a  small but beautiful bamboo house with a 10-meter-high tower that pushes up through the trees to afford views across the valley and sunset… This top-site is where we have started works.

Getting A Feel For The Landscape:

I spent an incredible first month alone living on the land.  Going back to basics, Rising with the sun I strolled the landscape all the time listening and looking slowly learning the nature of things. As a result, we have made some basic plans, creating access onto the mountain, clearing areas and walkways.. simple stuff but exciting and transformative. This is just the beginning, so thank you for taking an interest.
