It’s a hard way to start such a beautiful story but in truth, it is the jolt that starts this one.
I lost my Mum last year. I had always told her and promised myself that one day my partner Denise and I would live in Bali. That one day had become ten years and although the dream hadn’t faded, we hadn’t actually done anything about it. So with Mum in mind, I wasted no more time. heading back to…Bali determined to explore the reality of a long-held dream.
Bali is easy to fall in love with…
Even today with almost seven million tourists arriving in search of something, everyone still seems to come away with the kind of memories that last a lifetime. But where amongst all that is on offer would be right for us?
If you really want to know the full story; the search across two months and almost four thousand kilometres around Bali on a moped! I created a detailed report Its a labour of love designed to inspire in Denise the same ‘jump in now‘ confidence that I came away with. It’s also a pretty cool walk-through of what Bali has to offer!
In summary: I covered a lot of ground, in fact, four thousand kilometres on a moped in and around the island. Along the way, I dined with Kings, Sultans and Rajahs, Government officials, business owners, house builders, land developers, entrepreneurs, and all sorts, learning from each the ways and means, costs and benefits, trials, pitfalls…. all the time forming a picture of what could work for us.
In a concerted effort to establish what works, how it works, and why: I met with developers and looked at land everywhere. From beachfront and coastal plots. converted rice paddies fields, land in and around Ubud, The Island of Penida, around the volcanoes of Sideman, the coast near Channidasa, the mountains of Butucarru, North South East and West. At each location, I reviewed the costs and benefits of building small developments, from two-bedroom Eco-lodges to upscale multi-complex endeavours… from Bamboo home-stay farming huts and cheap AIRBNB to plush luxurious homes built to rent and how to build a max value villa… I also looked at the viability of a swath of businesses: bars, coffee shops, surf shacks, and yoga retreats, etc… in short, that kind of life is not for us… So I headed back to the hills…
put me on the list 🙂
And like i said im more than happy if need me to help you out building anything, can’t really stay weeks because of work, but a week is doable this year or next months (if travel is allowed?)
